As a Special Educator, my caseload consists of students who are on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans. In addition to being responsible for conducting Special Education evaluations and writing IEPs and 504 Plans, my job consists of designing and overseeing educational programs for students who require Special Education supports, related services, and/or classroom accommodations.
In addition to my role of an educator, another one of my responsibilities is to serve as co-lead Teacher Advisor for the collective Freshman class. My responsibilities include overseeing Harwood Union's Freshman class council as well as collaborating with each of the Freshman Teacher Advisor representatives in order to guide and oversee meaningful TA activities as a school.
One of my other roles is to serve as a mentor for our district's new teachers. This role allows me to use my twenty-plus years of experience in education as a launching pad for helping support new teachers at Harwood.
My educational philosophy and reason for being an educator is that I feel it is important to work with teams to help provide tools for students so that they can be in a learning environment where they have the best opportunity to succeed.
Aside from my work as an educator, my personal interests include drumming (I play the conga and the djembe), reading, hiking and camping. In addition to being married, I have two wonderful children as well as two significantly ADHD cats named Artemis and Biko.
