Condom Availability Programs

Effective July 1, 2021, all secondary schools in Vermont shall make condoms available to all students in grades 7-12, free of charge.

Vermont Statute: Provision of Contraceptives

HUUSD students in grades 7-12 will be able to access condoms in designated locations in our high school and middle schools. These locations will be staffed by individuals qualified to provide information and answer any questions.

As part of Vermont’s comprehensive sexual health education requirements, health curriculum 7-12 shall provide information about barrier methods including proper condom use and dental dams. Additionally, information will represent the needs of all students, inclusive of gender identity, sexuality, and ethnicity.

Curricular goals are guided by the National Health Education Standards and the National Sexuality Education Standards. Specifically, units and lessons are guided by the 3R's Curriculum and the Center for Disease Control.

Please direct any questions to our Principals, Nurses and Health teachers.

Aspirations

The Aspirations Student Advisory Board is asking all families to complete the following survey.

This survey is important as it will help us get a better sense of what students and families already know about post-high school planning. This will help Harwood revise resources and practices to better support ALL students and families in post-high school planning. Thank you for your participation!

CVCC Applications Open

Applications for the Central Vermont Career Center (CVCC) are open! CVCC will be sending information to all students and families about their 2022-23 programs and the School Counseling Department is hosting an informational session in the Auditorium on Wednesday, December 8th during ELO 7. Students may sign up with Teacher Advisor or through Adaptive Scheduler.

To access the CVCC application portal click here

Students interested in applying for the 2022-23 school year, should notify their school counselor who can provide information and support with the application process. To schedule a meeting with your school counselor, see the Registrar, Jennifer Shaub, in the School Counseling Department or contact her at jshaub@huusd.org 802-583-8180.

Student Health Issues

If your student is experiencing a long-term illness, having surgery, or sustained an injury outside of school, let the health office know so that we can coordinate and communicate with faculty and staff, if necessary. Supporting documentation (discharge paperwork, letter from provider) helps us determine accommodations to support students' learning. Feel free to contact the health office if you have any questions or would like to discuss.

Opportunity to Give

Harwood Rotary Interact is holding their annual Gifts of Kindness drive this year to support families receiving services from Circle. Circle is an organization dedicated to supporting families experiencing partner violence with the goal of ending partner violence in the future. As with last year, we are seeking gift cards of all kinds. There is also a significant need for trac phones and/or trac phone minutes. Submissions can be dropped off at the Harwood Main office or the Harwood Library or mailed to:
