Harwood Open House to Feature Innovative Practices in Classroom Dialogue
On Thursday, September 14 from 5:30- 8:30 PM Harwood Union High School will host its annual Open House for parents of students grades 9- 12.
The evening will begin at 5:30 pm in the school auditorium with a showing of a short film “From Rows to Tables: Using Socratic Dialogue in the Classroom.” This film highlights the work of teachers and students at Harwood who are working together to transform classroom practice using student driven inquiry or the “ Harkness Method” of discussions in classroom. Over the summer, 15 teachers and 12 students worked together to learn this new pedagogy and they will speak about how they are working in partnership to transform classroom practice at Harwood.
At 6:20 pm there will be an official welcome by the Principal, Lisa Atwood and from 6:30- 8:30 pm parents and interested relatives will have the chance to meet teachers and learn about their children’s’ classes for the upcoming year.
